Animal Shelter Recognizes Tom Zapata
In 2024 the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter (GJAS) said goodbye to Tom Zapata of Schulenburg as a valued board member and treasurer. Tom made a great contribution to the shelter; his efforts made a significant impact on the lives of countless animals in need in the Fayette County community.
Tom is an animal lover and a strong advocate for the care and well being of animals of all kinds, but especially dogs. Tom had the following to say about his time with the shelter: “The saying ‘dogs are man’s best friend’is more than that. Dogs give unconditional love and loyalty to humans if given the chance. They have been our companions and protectors for thousands of years. They have become more than pets; they have become family. In return, they depend on our protection and cannot live without us. There are many civic and charitable organizations that help people. The government provides for the people. GJAS operates primarily through donations and volunteers. My time with GJAS was extremely rewarding and satisfying and I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute”.
The Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter Board of Directors, the staff and volunteers are grateful to have collaborated with Tom in serving this mission and wish him well in the next leg of your journey.
