Animal Shelter Hosting Car Show Benefit Nov. 2

The Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter will host their inaugural Cool Cats and Sly Dogs Car Show benefit on Saturday, Nov. 2.

The event will take place on the Courthouse Square in La Grange starting at 11 a.m. and then at The Crown Bar after 5 p.m.

Activities include a car show, chili cookoff, silent auction, a drawing for a 1955 Ford pickup and live music. Tickets for the truck drawing are $25. The truck is a “Restomod” 1955 F-100 powered by a 302 cu. in. V-8 with an automatic transmission, tilt hood and air conditioning.

The band Passing Strangers will perform from 1 - 4 p.m. on the Square downtown. After 5 p.m., festivities will move to The Crown Bar, located just off the Square at 114 S. Main St. There will be a rockabilly fashion show inside The Crown Bar at 6 p.m.

Andy Johnson of The Crown Bar said Martin Bros. Customs, a classic car restoration company from Johnson City, have agreed to bring some of their hot rods to the Show. Martin Bros. Customs star on the reality TV show “Iron Resurrection.”

“They’ve agreed … to bring some of the cars they’ve shown on their TV show,” Johnson said. “We’re going to have some national, local and regional advertising for this through their show, plus their social media accounts.”

Teresa Brown, executive director of the animal shelter, said she got to know Amanda and Joe Martin, the owners of Martin Bros. Customs, through a pit bull rescue operation they are involved with. Brown said the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter has partnered with them in the past to re-home some rescued pit bulls.

“It’s an amazing connection and they’re going to participate in our show,” Brown said.

Parking and registration for the car show starts at 8 a.m. that morning. Registration fee is $35 per car.
