B en Ahrens is going to be the head baseball coach, assistant basketball coach, and will be teaching Texas History, World Geography, as well as Government and Economics at Round Top-Carmine ISD.

Working in education for seventeen years, Ben became a teacher and coach because, “I use my platform as an educator and coach to fill the void that anyone may need. I coach with ‘tough love.’ I will always tell the truth, which I have found is difficult for the kids nowadays in this fast paced world where everyone wants instant gratification. They (children) do not care what you know until they know how much you care. Everyone needs guidance and a role model. Coaching is a calling, not a profession, and my goal is to make sure these young men turn into great human beings, men, husbands, and wonderful fathers.”

Graduating from Sul Ross State University in 2008, Ben earned his Bachelor’s in science degree in kinesiology and sports science with a minor in history. According to Ben, his mother was an educator, so he “grew up in hallways” which contributed to him choosing to teach. But his high school baseball coach, Jerry Pyles, was the person that inspired him to become a coach. “The way he was able to handle all different backgrounds of kids and bring us all together for a common goal to compete on the diamond. This patience and firm leadership was exactly what I wanted to strive to become.”

According to Ben, he is looking forward to this next year because “Personally, I’m excited to see my oldest daughter Jaelyn succeed and adapt to the new environment of RTC both on the court and in the classroom. Professionally I cannot wait to get these boys out on the baseball field. We have a good nucleus of young men and will not be outworked.”
