Ageless Artistry Reception a Success In Schulenburg

Senior Connections Program Director Stephanie Shroyer presented Linda Barrilleaux with the first place award for Peoples Choice at Agless Artistry Show in Schulenburg. Her piece Spanish Dagger won the most votes. Sheryl Tumis created crochet Easter bunny pins for each of the members in Schulenburg. She is valued volunteer Sharon Rodriguez’s sister-in-law.
On Saturday, April 12, the Schulenburg community came together to celebrate the remarkable talents of our senior artists at the Ageless Artistry reception. Over 100 attendees filled the gallery space, creating an atmosphere brimming with celebration and camaraderie. Guests enjoyed an impressive display of 180 pieces of artwork, showcasing the skills and passion of our 28 talented artists. The event was a feast for the eyes and the palate, with abundant food and beverages shared among all who entered.
A highlight of the afternoon was the introduction of a People’s ChoiceAward, allowing visitors to vote for their favorite artist and piece. A heartfelt thank you goes to Claire Lewis for generously donating the funds for the rewards. The winners were Linda Barrilleaux, who claimed first place with her striking piece titled “Spanish Dagger,” followed closely by Diana Chafin, who had her captivating metal sculpture “Boat Women” in second place. Annette Jasek’s stunning acrylic skin collage “The Beast is Busting Loose” took third place. The support from the community was heartwarming, making the afternoon a memorable celebration of artistry and connection.
For those of you who missed the event, the gallery is open during the week from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Please take a moment to enjoy the artwork. It can be found at 1203 Kessler Ave, beside On Point Dance Studio, where the Turtle Wing office lives. The show will run until May 9.
As we approach the last week of April, Schulenburg is set to host an exciting lineup of activities.
On April 28, join us for a morning filled with coffee, conversation, and friendly competition as everyone gathers to play their favorite games. A delicious homecooked meal awaits at 11:30 a.m. We welcome Larry Hatfield from Sleep Solutions in La Grange as our Lunch and Learn speaker. Many of you may know Larry as a dentist, but his new venture promises to be an intriguing topic for discussion. Following the program, at 12:30, Peyton Steel from Amedisys Home Health will lead an engaging bingo game, ensuring a fun-filled afternoon.
On April 29, there will be no programs, but we will resume activities on April 30. The menu will feature hamburger steak, buttered potatoes, salad, and dessert, culminating with the company of Bill Wagner, our VIP bingo caller, for a lively bingo session.
This week, we will also enjoy Artful Fridays; the class will be led by Jaime Janda, granddaughter of Irene Janda, and she is our newest artist instructor to join in the fun. Jamie will introduce participants to art journals, encouraging them to explore various media, from scrapbooking/ collage to painting, drawing, and journalling to create personal heirloom journals.
The session runs from 10 a.m. - 12 noon at Arts for Rural Texas, 1206 S. Lyons Ave. The second classroom offers a second learning option. Tory Knox will substitute for Stephanie and teach the art of Gelli printing, showcasing the versatility of this creative technique. The class will be followed by a light lunch.
