Knead to Know – It was Crust a Matter of Time

Mr Gatti’s Pizza will return to La Grange next year.

The Record heard from several local sources recently who said a deal was in the works for the pizza chain to open a location inside the La Grange Walmart Supercenter. They said it would occupy the space that formerly housed a Subway location at the front of the store. Kelsey Bohl with Walmart Media Relations confirmed the development to the Record on Tuesday.

“We can confirm that Mr Gatti’s has been approved space in the La Grange store,” Bohl said. “The expected opening date is late Spring 2025.”

Back in July, Mr Gatti’s corporate headquarters announced it was teaming up with Walmart to open 92 Mr Gatti’s locations within Walmart stores across four states, including Texas.

“Mr Gatti’s new Walmart locations will feature a new design, offering counter service and seating,” the press release stated. “Walmart shoppers can also conveniently order through the Mr Gatti’s app and have their food ready by the time they finish shopping. Additionally, these locations will offer delivery services to the surrounding communities.”

The press release went on to say this will be largest franchise expansion in Mr Gatti’s history. Mr Gatti’s, a Texasbased company, started out in Stephenville in 1964 as The Pizza Place before relocating to Austin in 1969 and changing to its current name. Starting in the 1970s, the chain expanded throughout Texas and the Southeastern United States.

Mr Gatti’s Pizza had a location on the Square in La Grange from 1983 until it closed in the early 1990s.
