ACCSS, BRIDGE Offering Summer Educational Program

Summer programs are designed to ease the transition to college and support postsecondary success by providing students with the academic skills and social resources needed to succeed in a college environment. These same skills can prepare high school students for not only success in high school academics, but for participating in dual credit while they are in high school.

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) defines dual credit as a system in which an eligible high school student enrolls in college course(s) and receives credit for the course(s) from both the college and high school. These courses may be taught on the high school campus by an approved instructor, on the college campus, or online. Dual credit courses include both academic and technical courses.

This summer, the Alliance for College and Career Student Success (ACCSS) and Building Resiliency, Inclusion, Diversity and Growth Through Education (BRIDGE) will be partnering to provide two opportunities for area students to participate in a Summer Bridge educational program. There will be a Summer Bridge event offered July 23-25 at Columbus High School and a second event will be held July 29-31 at Blinn College-Schulenburg Campus. These events will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will be provided at no charge. Lunch will be provided and there is an option for transportation to be provided if requested in advance.

Topics to be covered include time management, study skills, literacy skills, mental health and more. Students who recently completed 8th through 12th grades are encouraged to attend. Pre-registration by July 15 is required.

This program is provided through a collaborative effort with the BRIDGE organization. BRIDGE is a 501(c)3. BRIDGE stands for Building Resilience, Inclusion, Diversity and Growth through Education. Funding has been received from both Second Chance Emporium and Texas Rural Communities to allow this summer enrichment opportunity for our rural students. To register or for more information, visit the ACCSS website at www.myaccss. net or their Facebook page @ ACCSS5.
