72 Apply for LG Superintendent Job
Highlights from Monday’s board meeting of the La Grange Independent School District:
Board President Gary Drab reported that interviews for superintendent would begin on Tuesday, March 22. He told the other board members that they had received 72 applications for this position. Current superintendent Bill Wagner is retiring this summer.
Comments from the Public
Brian Killough addressed the board during the comment period concerning the purchasing of online tickets for sporting events. He said that he has had to make up to four separate purchases for games, (in the same week) to see his grandchildren play JV or middle school sports – each time entering a credit card and incurring a service charge that goes to an outside company. He asked the board if they would consider selling a pass to these events so that more people would be able to easily come to the games. Killough said, “There has to be a better way.”
Administrative Reports
Superintendent Bill Wagner reported that the current enrollment is 1,867 students. The average daily attendance is currently 91.83%. He also reported that COVID numbers are very low.
Assistant Superintendent Stacey Eilers told the board that multiple UIL events are occurring in La Grange this week.
Director of Operations Sharon Muzny reported that the floors in Hermes Gym 1 and Hermes Gym 2 are being repaired. The carpet is being replaced with BCT in two rooms in the pre-kindergarten wing.
The track surface has had multiple bubbles requiring repair and so the covering will be replaced at no charge.
The band was in need of a band trailer. A used trailer that is in good shape is available and will possibly be purchased for the needs of the band.
New Hires and Resignations
The board extended probationary contracts to Haley Olsovsky and Brenna Munsch at La Grange Elementary School. Anna Talley was hired as a cafeteria worker.
Resignations were received from Anne Burnham – special education teacher at La Grange Elementary. Resignations were also received from Glenn Warnken, Nidia Ramriez and Gloria Hidalgo.
