4th of July in The Park Details Set in Muldoon

M

July 4th is fast approaching and the Muldoon Park Association has a big 250th anniversary celebration for our nation planned. This is a big community gathering that will be loads of fun.

Everyone is encouraged to come out in their best red, white and blue to participate in the parade through Muldoon. This year the parade will not be crossing the railroad tracks and but will still round through the park. Bikes, four-wheelers, floats, tractors, horse and riders, and walkers are all encouraged to show off their national pride. The parade will begin through downtown Muldoon at 10 a.m.

An exciting new addition is being added to the celebration, a live band. This will be a fun new entertainment for everyone to enjoy. Be sure to bring your lawn chair to relax in while you enjoy all the fun and live music.

The fun will continue with a hat decoration contest. Start decorating your favorite hat to enter in the patriotic hat contest. Here’s a chance to show off your creative side.

Along side the hat contest there will be a silent auction to raise funds to be used to take care of the park. The new board is wanting to maintain and improve this community treasure that is the park. Come out and meet the new board, support the park and celebrate the 4th of July. The board is wanting to meet everyone in the community and build a strong sense of community and have an open relationship with area residents.

If you would like help out, contact Antoniette Syler-Joplin at (979) 561-6973 for more information on what is needed, that includes volunteers.

There will be hot dogs on the grill for lunch on the 4th. A freewill donation will be collected. Bring along your favorite side dish and/or dessert to share. This will be a great chance to sample all those good cooks in the area.

Church News

Stray Gathering Cowboy Church is doing what cowboy churches do and are hosting a Team Roping Event on June 19 at the Sheriff’s Posse Arena on FM 609 outside La Grange. Barbi Heffernan is organizing the event for SG2C. This is a great chance to come out and see these cowboys and cowgirls show off their talents.

Then on June 20 the men of SG2C men will be serving a Men’s Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Area men are invited to come out and check out this wonderful Christian gathering of men. What a delicious way to check out this church. So come out enjoy some wonderful food and fellowship.

To round out the month of June, a fundraiser is being organized for members Mike and JoAnn Croucher’s daughter Tammy on June 27 at Coppertop Brewery in Bastrop. They are looking for donations for the auction. If you have something to donate, drop by SG2C on any Sunday morning.

Out and About

Ron and Pam Knotts spent a wonderful afternoon recently at Martha’s Bloomers in Navasota. They had lunch with old friends. The nursery and cafe have become a great meeting place to keep in touch with friends spread across the area. The men worked together many years ago at the Houston Police Department and the couples have kept in touch now for more than sixty years. E.J.and Nelson Cox and Don and Marilyn Boethel have been through so many years of family events and milestones with Ron and Pam and still laugh at each other’s jokes.

The old police stories are repeated over and over and never cease to bring smiles. And keeping the tradition, the next get together is already on the calendar.

Nancie and Billy Blair have been enjoying their nephew, Jack Riddell from Euless, who came in to help with some construction projects and just catch up. Jack is attending Texas State University.

Julie Zavala came in from Georgetown to visit her sister and brother-in-law, Jennifer and Clay Rightmer, over the weekend.
