22-Year-Old Man Drowns in Pool
A young man drowned in a pool at a private residence near Carmine on Sunday, July 7.
Fayette County EMS got the call around 9:40 p.m. Assistant EMS Director Gary Daniels said an off-duty Fayette County paramedic, Bradley Wunderlich, arrived first at the scene. Wunderlich found the man at the bottom of the pool.
Wunderlich dove in and pulled the man out, Daniels said. Wunderlich began CPR until the ambulance crew arrived. Unfortunately, they were unable to save the patient.
Deputies with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office also responded. Lt. David Beyer of the Sheriff’s Office said the deceased was a 22-year-old from Mexico.
Beyer said officials have not yet been able to notify the man’s next-of-kin. Accordingly, his name has not been released.
Beyer said another Hispanic male was at the scene when the drowning occurred. The two men were workers at the property, he said.
Beyer said investigators believe neither of the two men knew how to swim. In addition, he said alcohol appeared to play a factor in the drowning.
