$199,000 Found Hidden in Toy Boxes

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at 12:40 p.m., interdiction investigator David Smith conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on I-10 west bound, near Flatonia for a traffic infraction. During a search, the Investigator Smith located a luggage bag and observed inside to be three boxes of toys. The boxes had an inconsistent weight for the toys that should have been in them. Smith then located several vacuum sealed bundles of US Currency, which were hidden and packaged consistent to that of drug trafficking and money laundering organizations. The monies were taken to the bank and totaled to $199,000. The driver, identified as Emundo Rendon, 64, of McAllen who was arrested and charged with Money Laundering, second degree Felony. Rendon was transported to the Dan R Beck Justice Center.
