176th Annual Round Top Independence Event Set

The 176th annual Round Top Fourth of July Celebration takes place this Saturday.

Festivities will begin on the Courthouse Square in Round Top with speeches by State Senator Lois Kolkhorst, former Fayette County Judge Joe Weber and County Judgeelect Josh Homan. The Round Top Brass Band will provide patriotic music. The parade will kick off at 10:30 a.m. with the firing of the Town Cannon.

The Round Top Rifle Club, which sponsors the celebration, will serve a barbecue brisket and sausage meal following the parade at the Rifle Hall, located at 710 FM 1457. Serving begins at 11:30 a.m. You can dine in the hall or pick up plates in the drivethrough line. Plates are $20 each. Barbecue brisket, pork and sausage will also be sold by the pound.

There will be music in the hall provided by the Round Top Brass Band and Cool Freddie and The Crew in the afternoon. A jam session will local musicians will take place between the bands. A prize drawing will also be held.

The Rifle Hall will then host an evening dance from 6-10 p.m. with music by the western swing group Rocky King Band. Admission is $20 at the door.
