To the Editor: After reading about the disturbance at Northpointe Apartments in The Fayette County Record, I believe the report is missing a few facts. I was riding as a passenger in the front vehicle of the Trump Train as it was heading towards the apartment complex, a small sedan whipped around us and parked by the curb.

Dolph Briscoe survived a surprisingly strong challenge from Republican Henry Grover on Nov. 7, 1972, but the six-percent showing by the Raza Unida candidate made the Democrat the first Texas governor in 78 years elected without a clear majority of the votes.

As the new CEO of St. Mark’s Medical Center, I am humbled to have this tremendous opportunity to serve your community. I recently moved to La Grange from Murphy, NC, where I was the CEO of a 57-bed rural community hospital.

For most Texans, Election Day is a misnomer. More Texans voted early this year than cast their ballots during all of the 2016 general election.

A number of folks commented that they enjoyed seeing the front page of that 1924 issue of The Fayette County Record in Tuesday’s issue. It’s the oldest known copy of the current incarnation of The Record, as we approach our 100th year of continuous publication.

Halloween is here but with a few twists from years past. Since we are experiencing a shift in how we celebrate this year, I’m asking questions about those weird spooky nights when we knocked on neighbors’ doors, held out our jack-o-lantern buckets and whispered “Trick or Treat”. On November 11th of each year, Americans have honored those men and women who have served in the U.S. Armed Services since the armistice which ended World War I was declared on November 11, 1918. Veterans are women and men from our communities who committed themselves carte blanche to the USA in the Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, or Coast Guard and put their life on the line for our freedom.

A torpedo-shaped sphere cruised the night sky over the West Texas town of Levelland on Nov. 2, 1957, while on the ground mysterious “eggs of light” blocked the roads.

I heard someone say the other day, “I’m bored.” I wonder how many of us can relate to that statement. It isn’t easy constantly staying at home during this pandemic.
