Recalling the Days of Going Outside to Play

In my days of growing up, 1948 – 1950s, whenever my mom chased me out of the house, she would say “go outside and play.” Now-a-days if you tell that to the youngsters, they might go outside but they have no clue what to do. The only way they know how to amuse themselves is to sit under a shade tree and play games on their “smart phones.” We were never told how or what to play. We made up our own games especially in grade school.

Right Wing Wrong

To the Editor: The July 30, 2021 Record had an array of right wing statements that should cause concern for most Americans. For example, on the one hand, County Judge Joe Weber is to be complimented for at least impliedly encouraging the people of Fayette County to immediately consult their family physicians on the need to take the vaccine to protect themselves and others from the far more contagious and deadly Delta mutation of the coronavirus.

Look in the Mirror

To the Editor: I noticed that the Letters To the Editor page in the July 30 edition was, once again, dominated by extreme right wing conservative voices. According to these individuals everything that is “wrong” in our state is the fault of the liberal political office holders and judges that have gotten elected.

Rural Concern for Mail-in Ballots

To the Editor: I can understand why Fayette County Republicans don’t take issue with the voting bills currently on the special session agenda. Most of the content in these bills actually target the large metropolitan areas that overwhelmingly vote Democrat and will most likely have very little effect in the red rural areas.

Vaxing Questions

To the Editor: John W. Mikus had yet another long-winded, letter in the July 23 edition of this paper.

Patience Needed

To the Editor: We all have images of leaders. We wish that leaders were capable of solving any problem with the clap of a hand or snap of fingers.

My addictions are many, sorry to say, and I rarely pull them out to analyze, evaluate, contemplate, or do something about. Rather, I view them, identify one or two, and sigh with acceptance that yes, I have them and am reminded I won’t take any action to alleviate them.
