To the Editor: It was refreshing to see the Texas House of Representatives go beyond party politics and bipartisanship to impeach Attorney General Paxton. In matters of integrity, honesty and professionalism, political party affiliations are irrelevant.

To the Editor: SB 14 prohibits transgender care to children less than 18 years old. Children who are younger than 18 may not be able to decide what is best for themselves going forward.

To the Editor: In reference to an article in the Fayette County Record on May 19 about appraisal values to make another jump. As a fourth generation resident and tax payer of Fayette County, may I suggest we the people and taxpayers have some pushback to the state, our representatives and senators? We the people are going to have to contact them and see if they like their job.

To the Editor: I realize everyone is upset about the increase in property appraisals but remember that it is the Commissioners Court which actually sets the tax rate, not the appraisal district. Budget talks are already ongoing internally, so if you don’t want to be even more upset by an equally offensive tax increase in the new budget, then I suggest you get down to Commissioners Court and express your concern early, while the budget is still being formulated.

C The Texas House voted overwhelmingly to impeach Attorney General Ken Paxton Saturday, only the third time in the state’s history that has occurred. The Austin American-Statesman and numerous news outlets reported the chamber voted 12123 to remove Paxton, 60, from office while he awaits a trial in the Senate during a special session yet to be called.

When I was a wee tot, I subscribed to the single-ladder theory. Everything was in sync. If you were the smartest person in the land, you’d also be the richest. The most attractive. Probably the president. According to the theory, everything is tied together that way.

To the Editor: Economists warn us that social safety nets like Social Security and Medicare could be in peril because of a shrinking tax base due to an increasingly aging population and a declining pool of young workers, as reported in various articles such as Christopher Rugaber in USA TODAY, 07/05/2021, and authors Brancaccio, Farrell, and Shin in Marketplace Morning Report, 05/19/2021. And now we have a crisis on our southern border as thousands of immigrants, refugees and their families, desperate to come to America, fleeing from danger and deprivation, seeking opportunities and safety, overwhelm border security resources and personnel.

To the Editor: I find it fascinating visiting the grocery store. There are so many options of all sorts these days in which we have the luxury to partake.
