My Sacred Place

A few miles from a small town in southeastern Oklahoma is a state park where robbers, crooks, thieves and notorious thugs eluded law officers in early day Oklahoma. The rough hills and rocky terrain provided shelter and beneficial lookout advantage for outlaws including the Colt brothers and Belle Starr, making it a perfect hideout, but a place of frustration for many sheriffs and their posse members.

Wildfire Chances Increasing Across State

CAPITAL Highlights

The risk for wildfires across the state has risen along with the hot and dry conditions, according to the Texas A&M Forest Service.

“With the recent uptick in wildfire activity, Texas A&M Forest Service has mobilized additional personnel and equipment to assist with response,” said Wes Moorehead, Texas A&M Forest Service fire chief. “State and local firefighters are prepared to respond quickly but we need Texans to be careful and prevent wildfire ignitions while conditions remain hot and dry.”

The Good Old Summertime

As the song goes, “There’s a time in each year that we always hold dear, good old summer time; with the birds and the trees-es, and sweet scented breezes, good old summer time, when your day’s work is over Then you are in clover, and life is one beautiful rhyme, no trouble annoying, each one is enjoying, the good old summer time. In the good old summer time.” But this song can be debatable. Summer in Texas has its ups and downs.

More Inflation, More Taxes

To the Editor: It should be noted that the recent increases in tax revenues being generated within Fayette County are not related to increased sales, but to increased prices. Prices are up due to inflation and thus there is a corresponding increase in taxes collected.

Concerned Driver

To the Editor: This notice is to advise the citizens of Fayette County of two dangerous intersections, developing, at the ends of Country Club Drive, bordering the City of La Grange, and entering both Hwy 71 and Hwy 77. I have lived in the Frisch Auf! subdivision for 15 years, and have seen the traffic on Country Club Drive increase steadily as drivers use it as a short cut between Hwy 71 and Hwy 77.
