With Mother’s Day arriving this Sunday, I found myself looking back on this time last year. It’s funny how a single weekend can change a family’s landscape as surely as a spring flood changes a shoreline.

Flatonia Girls Surge to Regional Semifinals

The Flatonia softball team (16-6) bashed Riviera Kaufer 10-0 and 12-2 to sweep their way to an Area title in Beeville last week. In Game 1, Jalee Trussell pitched a complete game onehitter and the Lady Bulldogs bashed out nine hits.

Three From Fayetteville Headed to State in Track

Three Fayetteville High School track athletes (Mason Fenhaus, Cole Jurecka and Cambree Denham) are headed to the state track meet by finishing in the top two of their events at the regional meet in Seguin last week. La Grange Wins Game 3 Slugfest to Advance in Playoffs

When their backs are against the wall, that’s when the La Grange base team is at its most dangerous. For the second consecutive season the Leps faced down elimination against Sealy in a Game 3 in the Bi-District round of the playoffs and survived.

Goehring Signs to Play College Football

Adler Goehring recently signed to play football at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, where he will play middle linebacker. “While he currently attends Burnet High School, Fayette County has always been a meaningful place to our family. Adler actually began his football career playing pee wee football in La Grange, and much of our extended family still calls the area home,” said Adler dad’s Clay Goehring, a former finance director at La Grange ISD. RTC Baseball Wins Bi-District Series

The Round Top-Carmine baseball team (7-8) swept their bi-district playoff series over Hull-Daisetta with an 8-7 win Wednesday and a 12-0 win Thursday in Huntsville. In that Game 1 victory, Will Neese pitched 5.1 innings of one-hit, 11-strikeout ball before Miles Neese and Carter Marburger closed out the game.

Zimmerman Honored

Flatonia native Beck Zimmerman has been named the Freshman of the Year in the Red River Athletic Conference. This season as a freshman catcher for Texas A&M University-Victoria, Zimmerman played in 51 games, hitting .376 with 57 RBIs.

Fayetteville Opens Playoffs Vs. D’Hanis

After their first round bye in the opening round of the 1A playoffs, the Fayetteville baseball team (7-5) will play a one-gamer to decide the Area title against D’Hanis (12-2) Thursday at 7 p.m. at Joe Gulley Park in Kenedy. These two teams have met numerous times in the baseball playoffs over the years – often in the regional finals. The Lions won a playoff warm-up last week versus Medina 15-5. Jack Schley homered. Kandon Kaspar and Dylan Henneke each had two hits in that game.
