La Grange Wins Game 3 Slugfest to Advance in Playoffs
When their backs are against the wall, that’s when the La Grange base team is at its most dangerous.
For the second consecutive season the Leps faced down elimination against Sealy in a Game 3 in the Bi-District round of the playoffs and survived.
La Grange beat Sealy 13-6 Saturday night in Mumford to win that Game 3, and take the series over the Tigers.
The Leps (16-11), now advance to face Salado (23-9) in the area round of the playoffs. The details of that series were not finalized at press time.
Against Salado, La Grange is hoping to replicate the formula it found against Sealy.
In Game One on Wednesday, La Grange won 7-2. Tristin Ulrich pitched 5.1 innings of two-run ball before Colt Jobb pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless relief. Jobb also had two hits and three RBIs.
Sealy got revenge Thursday beating La Grange in Game 2 Thursday 5-2. Tristin Ulrich and Dalton Janacek each had two hits for the Leps but it was not enough.
In Game 3, La Grange was clinging to a 6-4 lead before the Leps broke the game open with a seven-run sixth inning.
Ehler led that offensive outburst Saturday with four hits, including a triple. Howard Holmes had three hits. Ulrich, Janacek and Jobb each had two hits for the Leps. Janacek doubled.
Jobb and Hunter Gross combined on the pitching effort for the Leps Saturday, each allowing three runs. Jobb pitched the first 2.1 innings and Gross pitched the final 4.2 innings of relief.
