Brenek Throws No-Hitter As Schulenburg Advances
The Schulenburg baseball team smashed Kenedy last week to sweep their bi-district playoff series.
The Shorthorns (24-5) won Game 1 Wednesday 184. Schulenburg then won 10-0 Thursday as Owen Brenek pitched a six inning no-hitter for the Shorthorns striking out six.
In Wednesday’s victory, Connor Lichnovsky pitched five innings in that game before Nick Goode pitched a scoreless sixth.
The Shorthorns smashed 17 hits in that Game 1 win. Reid Janda had three hits. Lichnovsky had two doubles. Jayse Janda, Owen Brenek, Van Prihoda and Landon Conner also had two hits each.
In Thursday’s win, Brenek struck out six on his way to that no-hitter.
Jayse Janda had four hits Thursday, including three doubles. Brenek, Prihoda and Conner all had two hits for the Shorthorns in that game.
Schulenburg now advances to face Charlotte (18-7) in a three-game series. All games will be in Kenedy. Game 1 is Thursday at 4 p.m. Game 2 is Saturday at 5 p.m.. If needed, Game 3 would follow 30 minutes after Game 2.
