Retired Teachers Attend Leadership Conference
The District 13 Retired Teachers’ Spring Leadership Conference was held on May 12 at the Plum Creek Events Center in Kyle. Fourteen units (counties) of retired teachers comprise District 13, and there are 20 districts in the state of Texas. In attendance from Fayette County were Lisa Slinkard, Linda Oltmann, Melanie Mica, Karen Fitch, Carolyn West, Rick West, Nancy Pietsch.
Leroy Dehaven, TRTA State President, gave greetings to all present, and the following information about this past year: TRTA has 94,257 members (our goal is still to have 100,000); a record of 11,370,602 volunteer hours were presented to the legislature, saving Texas $116,941,750; 117,850 books were donated to the Children’s Book Project. He also encouraged all to sign up for The Inside Line, to help stay informed.
Leadership Training Sessions were held for Presidents (Gene Stokes), First Vice-President/Membership/Volunteer Services (Rosemary Morrow), Second Vice-President.
Communications (Melanie Mica), Secretary (Karen Fitch), Treasurer (Michial Meyer), Legislative (Mollye Long), Member Benefits (Evelyn Leggitt), and Retirement Education (Rebecca Felan).
The Business Meeting included installation of the following District 13 Officers: President-Gene Stokes; 2nd Vice-President-Melanie Mica; Secretary-Karen Fitch; Treasurer-Michial Meyer; and, an inspiring and informative message from Tim Lee, TRTA Executive Director.
