Winedale Online Zoom Talk Tuesday

OP News The next Winedale online talk is “Juneteenth – A Celebration of Emancipation”. Sharon Gillins, genealogist and researcher, will recount the story of how freedom came to Texas more than two-and-a-half years after the effective date of the Emancipation Proclamation and the evolution of the celebrations that followed from 1865 to present day, including efforts to establish Juneteenth as a national holiday.

Kaydin Gooch Named Taste of Winchester Master Chef

The Taste of Winchester was held this year with the Master Chef award being given to Kaydin Gooch. In the young people division, Chef in Training - Kennedy Breeden, Sous Chef Appetizer - Kaydin Gooch; Sous Chef Desserts - Jack Carter and Sous Chef Main Course Kaydin Gooch. In the adult division, the appetizer category was won by Margaret Atkins; main course category - Barb Schafer; and desserts category - Dinah Breeden. The homemade sausage category was won by Kaydin Gooch.

Author of New M-K-T Railroad Book Coming to La Grange Depot Feb. 16

Up until the 1950s, the streamlined trains of the Katy railroad provided the most luxurious means of transportation to and from La Grange. Railroad historian Steve Goen has produced a new pictorial book, “Passenger Trains of Texas – The Katy,” that brings the streamliner days back to life.
