Senior Connections Seeks Activity Director Volunteer

January is gone and now it is February 2024. Time just marches on and does not wait for anyone.

People are getting “bluebonnet itchy” and are starting seedlings inside as folks prepare to get back to the great outdoors and live. Live to see the sun come up on a new day, live to listen to the birds singing, live to feel the warmth of the sunshine on our dry skin, and we live to see the smiles and gleaming eyes of our family, friends and neighbors. We want to see our projects live with our efforts and we want to see the results of those efforts too. The energy level has gone up, just thinking about being outdoors and communing with nature.

There were 41 members in attendance at Senior Connections on the last day of January, and there were 31 members there on Jan. 3, when we opened after the holidays.

The energy level is high at Senior Connections. There is Square Dancing happening at Senior Connections. The night time hours weren’t working out so good, so Julian and Charlotte Godsey, the instructors, came in on Wednesday to meet with the members and get some feedback.

Wednesdays there will be Square Dancing at 1:30 p.m. Square Dancing will still be open at the Center on Thursday evenings, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., so there will be even more people to dance with. Let’s make something happen.

The energy level is high at Senior Connections. It’s Mardi Gras time. Before we enter the Lenten Season to prepare for Easter, there is that Tuesday… that Tuesday before Ash Wednesday…you know. Yes, it’s called Fat Tuesday and we will have a fat old time at Senior Connections on this day.

Mardi Gras Breakfast & Bingo on Fat Tuesday, Feb. 13, we will be hosting a membership recruitment drive by having some Breakfast together and we will have a VIP Bingo Caller for a special round of Bingo on this day. There will be prizes, there will be food, and there will be people, so we will be looking for you all.

We are looking for an “Activity Director Volunteer” person to come in and lead small groups for two to three hours on a Tuesday or Thursday morning. This person would help us with our monthly planning, look for new things to do, and some different places to go. You would be the boss of your activities, leading the group and securing supplies needed. Our members want to learn some new things, they want a mix of activities, like outings, lessons, and learning. If this sounds like something you might like to do, please give us a call at (979) 743-3227.

Monday, Feb. 26, the team from Schulenburg Regency Home Health will be coming to speak to our members about general health issues, but, more importantly, they will be conducting Blood Pressure Screenings for anyone and everyone who wants one. Please do take advantage of this free service by professionals in our community, and let your friends know, too. Make plans now to come join us for lunch this day and get your Blood Pressure Screening. This service is free of charge.

We want to thank the staff team at Clements Country Carts for the gently used paper shredder that they were able to donate to Senior Connections.

Our mission is simple: to enhance the quality of life for the seniors we serve.
