Winedale Online Zoom Talk Tuesday
The next Winedale online talk is “Juneteenth – A Celebration of Emancipation”. Sharon Gillins, genealogist and researcher, will recount the story of how freedom came to Texas more than two-and-a-half years after the effective date of the Emancipation Proclamation and the evolution of the celebrations that followed from 1865 to present day, including efforts to establish Juneteenth as a national holiday. The Winedale quilt exhibit “Citizen Stitching: Political Quilts in the Winedale Quilt Collection” displays examples of how some quilters have expressed party affiliations and support for candidates with both original and well-known patterns throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Round Top Family Library

The Library and FYI… presents “Author! Author!”, featuring Mike Vance on Sunday, Feb. 18 from 2-4 p.m. Vance is one of the most entertaining historical storytellers in Texas. His eighth book, “Getting Away with Bloody Murder,” is the story of Houston attorney James Brockman, who tried high-profile true crime and murder cases between 1895 and 1910. After the presentation, all are welcome to stay for a reception, visit with Mike, purchase his books, and enjoy refreshments. This is a free event and open to the public.
RTC-ISD
The students have a holiday on Monday, Feb. 19. Monday, Feb. 26 there will be a public hearing of the Texas Academic Performance Reports at 6 p.m., followed by a school board meeting at 6:30 p.m.
Round Top Rifle Hall
The Round Top Rifle Hall’s Monday Night Hamburger Socials are back on the schedule. The first, second, and third Mondays of each month, the Hall is open from 5:30-8 p.m. for hamburgers, “The Rooster,” hotdogs, or chilidogs, along with fries or onion rings. All proceeds benefit the continued improvement of the Round Top Rifle Association.
Church News
The Ash Wednesday service at St. Paul in Shelby will be Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. There will be a 7 p.m. service at Bethlehem Lutheran. The first, third, and fifth Wednesday Lenten Meals and services will be held at Shelby. The second, and fourth Wednesdays will be at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Festival Hill
The Fayette County Texas Exes Annual Scholarship Fundraiser will be Saturday, March 2 from 11:30 a.m.3 p.m. at Festival Hill. This event raises money to provide scholarships for Fayette County high school graduates planning to attend the University of Texas at Austin. The Fayette County Chapter of the Texas Exes invites everyone to come out for a great afternoon! There will be a meal, speaker, Kelly Brooks, an auction, and a tour of Round Top Festival Institute. Tickets are $50 per person and include admission, the fried chicken dinner, and beverages. This is a family-friendly event. Children 12 and under are free.
