Find Treasures at Schulenburg Library Friends Book Sale May 13-21
Who would publish and print a book inside a black and unfathomably featureless cover? This is but one curiosity of thousands in the piles of books donated to a library’s annual book sale. And another, a delicious telling of the undercover life of a NY Times food critic. And yet another, about Indians who lived right where we are standing. From a miniature guide to Grace which snuggles well in a purse — to a monograph on nasty people and how to stop being hurt by them — to books heavy with gorgeous art images. As book sales go, they are not only an offering bibliophiles must love, they are a trip through the halls of life and its many mysteries, drama, history, fascinations and machinations, both real and imagined, and all of it captured in ink on paper.
Where on the Square? Contest
May is Historic Preservation Month and as part of that effort, La Grange Main Street is holding a contest to help locals better appreciate the architectural features that are preserved in the downtown business district. Look at the close-up picture on the left and if you think you can identify where this is, cut out this entire box, fill out the below information and return it to the La Grange Visitors Bureau Building located in the Historic Casino Hall (254 N Jefferson St.) during regular business hours (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) before this Friday.
