Schulenburg Garden Club Holds Flower Show
Schulenburg Garden Club held a Standard Flower Show with the theme “The Arts” on April 24, at the Schulenburg Hall. A wide variety of creative designs were displayed in the hall.
The Music Section was composed of creative designs. The class blue ribbon for Symphony was won by Debbie Vellalla. The class blue ribbon for Rock n’ Roll was won by MaryAnn Jurica. The class blue ribbon for Jazz was won by Shawn Willis. The Designer’s Choice Award, given to the best design in the Section, was Mary Ann Jurica.
The public was provided a ballot to vote for their favorite design in each Section. In Section A, Jazz by Shawn Willis was voted the favorite. In Section B, Texas Two-Step by Nancy Tinsley was voted the favorite. In Section C, Les Iles d’Or by Wanda Brown was voted the favorite.
Many horticulture awards were presented by the National Garden Clubs Flower Show judges.
The Award of Merit is awarded to the best named blue ribbon cut specimen winner scoring 95 or above in the section. Section A was Queen Anne’s Lace exhibited by Ruth Fabian. Section B was Yarrow exhibited by Ruth Fabian. Section C was Spuria Iris “Missouri Rivers” exhibited by Janet Murphy. Section I was Brassica oleracea acephata- Curled Kale exhibited by Jan Ripper.
The Arboreal Award is awarded to an exhibit of named fresh plant material composed of a tree or shrub. One awarded to the best shrub, Nandina, exhibited by Mary Demel. Another Arboreal Award was given to the best tree, Cornus drummondii- Roughleaf Dogwood exhibited by Wanda Brown. The Growers Choice Award is awarded to the best named potted blue ribbon winner scoring 95 or above in the Section. Section L was Roselingo callesia exhibited by Janet Kobza. Section M was Oleandraceae nephrol epsis exhibited by Mary Demel. Section J was Kalanchoe blossfeldiana exhibited by Debbie Behlen.
Special Section N.1 Class 144 was a Planter (a group of three or more compatible plants grown in one container). It contained Arrowhead, Kalanchoe, and crauhcoae and was exhibited by Mary Demel.
Special Section N. 1. Class 147 was a Collection (an exhibit consisting of at least five different specimens each in a separate container) exhibited by Jan Ripper.
The Elfin Award is presented to the best named petite horticulture specimen scoring 95 or above in Section N.2.
Lupus namilus (Lizard Tail) was exhibited by Mary Demel.
The Award of Horticultural Excellence is awarded to the best named exhibit of fresh plant material judged the finest in the entire Horticulture Division. The winner was Roselingo callesia exhibited by Janet Kobza.
