La Grange Noon Lions Club President Craig Moreau presented Lion Michael Ahart with the 2024 Melvin Jones award. Lions Clubs International recognizes outstanding individuals by bestowing on them an award that is named for its founder, Melvin Jones. This Fellowship Award is the highest form of recognition and embodies humanitarian ideas consistent with the nature and purpose of Lionism.
As of July 5, total intake for the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter is 857: 369 dogs and 488 cats in need. As of July 5, the shelter has 132 animals in care: 76 dogs/56 cats. This number includes animals in the facility, in foster care for medical, waiting on available space, or awaiting transport to rescue partner.

Rev. Dr. Brian J. Hesse, Senior Pastor at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bellmead (Waco), will be the featured speaker at the annual BBQ Worship Service on Sunday, July 28 at 11 a.m. at Camp Lone Star. Rev. Ryan Neuhaus, the new Chief Executive Officer of Camp Lone Star, will also be installed during the service. All persons from the area are invited to attend. Festivities begin at 10:30 a.m. with pre-service music performed by the Summer Staff, under the canopy of trees near the lake (A/C live-streamed service will be available in the Koop Center).

The “Best of Chamber Music 2024” will be Friday, July 12 from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Saturday, July 13 is a Percussion Showcase from 1:30-2:30 p.m., and the Season Closing Concert at 7:30 p.m.
The next opportunity for a show will be Saturday, Aug. 24. The Magnolia City Brass Band will take the stage at the Festival Concert Hall. Houston’s new all-professional British-style brass band under the direction of Houston Symphony Assistant Principal Trumpet, Robert Walp.
“The Tempest” by William Shakespeare will be presented by the teens and pre-teens from Camp Shakespeare at Winedale. The kids, from all over the state, have been living and rehearsing in Round Top the last two weeks.

Christmas in July Bingo will be on Saturday, July 13 at the Ellinger Chamber of Commerce Hall. Doors open at 4 p.m., kitchen opens at 5 p.m. and games start at 6 p.m. Hamburgers, hotdogs, nachos, desserts and refreshments will be for sale.
