Fred Weber Joins the Century Club

On June 9, Fred Weber, a former resident of Fayette County, celebrated his 100th birthday with some 60 family and friends at the Round Top Rifle Association Hall. Fred was born on June 5, 1924 at the family homestead, a farm that straddled the Fayette/Austin county line.

Animal Shelter Has Waiting List For Intake

As of July 26, the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter total intake for 2024 is 979: 416 dogs and 563 cats in need. As of July 26, the shelter has 145 animals in care: 72 dogs/73 cats. This number includes animals in the facility, in foster care for medical, waiting on available space, or awaiting transport to rescue partner.

National Party of Texas Kicks Off This Weekend

When the calendar turns to July, the whole town of Schulenburg starts gearing up for the annual Schulenburg Festival, also known as the “National Party of Texas”. This year’s event will be held from Thursday August 1st through Sunday August 4th. Most events will take place in downtown Wolters Park. Events include live music, rodeo, cook-offs, parade, kids’ inflatables, arts & crafts vendors, kiddie parade, tricycle races, softball, golf, basketball, fun run, cornhole, and more.
