Fred Weber Joins the Century Club
On June 9, Fred Weber, a former resident of Fayette County, celebrated his 100th birthday with some 60 family and friends at the Round Top Rifle Association Hall.
Fred was born on June 5, 1924 at the family homestead, a farm that straddled the Fayette/Austin county line. He began his education at the old Haw Creek one-room schoolhouse, where all grades were taught. After his father passed away in 1940, and his older brothers went into military service, he was the man of the house until the family moved his mother and younger brother to Round Top in 1947. Fred then moved to Austin, where he married Vernell Renck in 1947. Fred continues to live in Austin to this day.
With both of his parents coming from large families, Fred and his ten siblings had 56 cousins living in the central Texas area, of that total of 67 cousins, only six remain living today.
Fred enjoyed visiting with his family members and friends. Of the original Weber siblings, only two are living: Fred and his brother, Curvey Weber of Fredericksburg. When asked how he made it to 100 years young, he said, “Hard work and clean living, and the blessings of God.”
