Houston Oilers Legend Visits Schulenburg

Former Houston Oiler quarterback Dan Pastorini (shown here signing autographs) spent Saturday visiting with attendees at the Schulenburg Festival. His appearance was sponsored by attorney Ken Bigham. Pastorini was a first round draft pick by the Oilers (third overall pick) and played for the Oilers from 1971 to 1979 before winning a Super Bowl with the Raiders in 1980. After his football career he pursued a career as a Top Fuel dragster driver in the National Hot Rod Association. He is 72 years old. Photo by Andy Behlen

More Local Olympics Connections

Last week the Record profiled Dave Oldham’s Olympic display at Kat’s Too Antiques on the Square in La Grange. Bryan Lock, also a vendor at Kat’s Too, has an interesting Olympic connection, which took place in 2018 at Kadena Air Force Base in Okinawa, Japan.
Back in 2018, Bryan Luck met USA Olympic Athletes Nastia Liukina, Laurie Hernandez and Dejiree Sanchez while working with the Boys and Girls Club in Okinawa, Japan.

Homer Bailey Looking Impressive at Triple-A

La Grange native Homer Bailey is getting closer to a return to the major leagues. Two weeks ago Bailey was promoted to the Oakland A’s Triple-A affiliate in Las Vegas, where he has made three starts, pitching ten total innings and allowing just three earned runs over that span while striking out 11 and walking just one.

Olympic Memorabilia On Display in La Grange

Dave Oldham (left) of Kat’s Too Antiques on the Square in La Grange has put up on display his personal collection of his Olympic Games memorabilia. Oldham attended the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City and witnessed Derek Parra win the gold medal in the 1500 meter speed skating final. That win was immortalized in a watercolor painting by the artist Marc Ahr – one of the highlights of Oldham’s collection (pictured right).
