More Local Olympics Connections
Last week the Record profiled Dave Oldham’s Olympic display at Kat’s Too Antiques on the Square in La Grange. Bryan Lock, also a vendor at Kat’s Too, has an interesting Olympic connection, which took place in 2018 at Kadena Air Force Base in Okinawa, Japan.
He and his family work as missionaries and at the time they were in Japan helping the Boys and Girls Club of America Support Team.
Bryan was part of a group of people who installed Olympic gymnastics equipment at the base. For the grand opening of the facility, the Armed Forces Network brought in past Olympic medal winners Nastia Liukina, Laurie Hernandez and Dejiree Sanchez.
Because Bryan had played a big part in building the gymnastic gym, he was asked to spend four days with the Olympians showing them around Okinawa. The Olympians held a workshop and photo shoot with the Kadena youth and Bryan really got to know them. They toured Okinawa, shopped, dined and performed at the youth center for parents.
“It was a treat to watch Nastia Liukin as one of the gymnastics commentators for this year’s Olympics,” Bryan said.
You can find Bryan’s pictures with the Olympians on display at Kat’s Too on the Square.
