The Fayetteville girls basketball team went to Goliad Friday and knocked off D’Hanis 56-32 in a second round 1A playoff game. Brooklyn Jaeger led the Lady Lions in scoring with 30 points and Emma Jurecka added 15.

A trio of local boys basketball teams have qualified for the playoffs, and begin their postseason this week. In Class 4A, the La Grange boys play Salado at 7 p.m.

Softball season is in full swing for the La Grange girls, who were busy on the diamond at the Brenham Leadoff Classic over the weekend. Thursday La Grange lost to Clear Falls 2-1 but then beat Judson 9-8 thanks to a 4-for-4 game at the plate from Abigail Dela Rosa.

Both La Grange varsity soccer teams won Friday. The La Grange boys hosted Cameron and won 5-0.

Despite injuries earlier this season, Aaliyah Hunt has given the Bethel College (Kan.) women’s basketball team productive minutes. The sophomore out of La Grange High School said she sprained her ankle during a practice before the opener, and she also dealt with back spasms.

The Fayetteville girls basketball team was the only county hoops team to survive the first round of the playoffs. On a night when three other Fayette County teams lost, the Lady Lions beat Prairie Lea Tuesday in Schulenburg 68-27.

ROCKDALE – Lake Belton has really grown up. Last year La Grange bounced Lake Belton (which was in its first year as a school) from the first round of the girls basketball playoffs, winning by 28 points.
