LG Soccer Teams Both Win Friday
Both La Grange varsity soccer teams won Friday.
The La Grange boys hosted Cameron and won 5-0.
Phillip Arceneaux and Jonathan Vazquez-Granillo both scored two goals each and C.J. Davis also scored.
It was the fourth Leps’ shutout in a row as the La Grange improved to 11-5-2 overall and 6-1 in district.
Meanwhile, the La Grange girls went to Cameron and won in a penalty kick shootout 4-1 after the game was tied 1-1 after regulation.
Megan Davis scored the only goal in regulation for the Leps. Then in the penalty kick
Then in the penalty kick shootout, goalie Kambri Mihatsch made two big saves and all LG players scored on their penalty kicks (Megan Davis, Dulce Merlos, Kambri Mihatsch and Angel Harrison).
“Tonight was a defining match for our season,” said La Grange head coach Chris Westall. “After a tough loss against Giddings earlier in the week which left us with four key starters out with injuries, and Cameron Yoe always a challenging match for us, it was a case of “next man up” and this group got it done when the chips were down.
“After ‘gifting’ an early goal and struggling offensively with most of our attacking players out of the lineup, my two senior captains Kaelyn Ortiz and Megan Davis put the team on their shoulders and in tandem produced a late equalizing goal to keep us in the match.”
The Lady Leps are now 10-3 overall and 3-1 in district and play at Smithville at 6 p.m. Friday Feb. 25.
