Flatonia Baseball Keeps Rolling

The Flatonia baseball team improved to 16-3 overall and 8-1 in district with Tuesday’s 6-5 win over Weimar. The Bulldogs also pounded Moulton last Friday 23-1 with Luke Law getting four hits.

The Flatonia girls golf team placed fifth at the Regional Tournament in Corpus Christi this week. Jordyn Ponewash advances to the UIL State Class 2A Tournament on May 15 and 16 as an individual medalist, while Sara Ponewash is an alternate to state. The Fayetteville baseball team now has a 8-6 overall record and a 7-4 mark in district after beating Round Top-Carmine 11-0 Wednesday. Fayetteville’s Travis Gully, Easton Jaeger and Reid Gross each had two hits in that game.

La Grange Area Track Qualifiers Ready to Compete Friday at Lep Stadium

La Grange High School will host the District 21/22-4AArea track meet Friday April 21 at Leopard Stadium. Field Events start at 9:30 a.m. with the running finals to start at 1 p.m. The event is open to the public. The top four places in each event move on to the Regional Track Meet in Bullard on April 28 & 29. Shown below are La Grange’s area qualifiers. The La Grange boys are fresh off their District 22-4A team title, their fifth track district title in the last six seasons. At the district meet, Austen Diggs broke his own school record in the 200 meter dash. He ran a 21.07 in the finals.

Fayetteville Boys Win Area Track Title

Fayetteville and Round Top-Carmine athletes competed in the 29/30A area track meet last week in Runge. The top four finishers in each event advance to the regional track meet will be April 28-29 at Jourdanton ISD.

Even 50 Years Later, Memories of Title Still Special for ‘73 Leps

Even a half-century later, the members of the 1973 La Grange baseball team – and their fans – are still celebrating their magical state title. Friday the team held a 50th anniversary reunion, and as part of the festivities, the team members (almost all of whom attended) were honored on the field before the Friday varsity baseball game.

The 50th anniversary recognition of the 1973 La Grange State Baseball Championship team was rescheduled because of bad weather and will now be Friday, April 14, preceding the 7 p.m. varsity baseball contest vs. Caldwell at the La Grange High School baseball stadium. Shown here is that 1973 team celebrating the title on the field after their 3-1 win over Brenham at Nelson Field in Austin. The Leps scored two runs after there were two outs in the final inning to win.
