Fayetteville pitcher Chance Konvicka came within one out of a perfect game as the Lions beat Round Top-Carmine 10-0 Wednesday in a one-game winner-take-all regional semifinal game in Navasota. Konvicka held on to preserve the no-hitter and it was also his bases-loaded double that broke open a scoreless game.

Flatonia baseball player Beck Zimmerman has come up big throughout the season at the two most important positions on the diamond, pitcher and catcher as the Bulldogs get ready for this week’s regional semifinal series against Kenedy.

The La Grange 4x200 relay placed fifth at state with a time of 1:27.93. Gilmer won the state title with a time of 1:25.90.

It’s an all-Fayette County Regional semifinal baseball playoff series. The Round Top-Carmine Cubs beat Leakey 11-0 Thursday in Burnet, while Fayetteville swept Medina in a bestof- three series last week.

On today’s front page we featured the three Fayette County athletes who won gold at the state track meet, but several other local athletes also fared well. Flatonia’s Kobe Burton was second in the 2A boy shot put with a distance of 51-feet 11.25-inches.

High School softball season officially game to an end in Fayette County Friday as Schulenburg was swept by Weimar in a third round playoff series. Weimar won 18-1 and 6-0.

The La Grange baseball team saw its season come to an end Friday in Del Valle as the Leps lost two games to No. 4-ranked China Spring 11-1 and 7-2.
