The Schulenburg volleyball team opened its season with a pair of losses against two very good teams Tuesday. The Lady Horns lost to St. Michael’s 25-18, 25-21, 25-16 and fell to Goliad in five sets, losing that fifth set 15-6.

The La Grange football will host a scrimmage against El Campo Friday as a new era for the team begins. For the first time since 2009, the Leps have a new head coach, Kyle Cooper. Freshman and JV will start about 5 p.m. with the varsity beginning about 6 p.m. La Grange will travel to Yoakum for another scrimmage next Thursday before opening the regular season at Bellville Aug. 25.

Read about our Athletes of the Week in every Friday edition and then watch their interviews on the FCR’s Facebook page. La Grange senior volleyball player Jena Jobb is going into her third season on the Lady Leps varsity team and certainly knows how to keep the ball off the floor.
