Jobb’s Defensive Prowess Key to Lady Leps’ Success This Season

La Grange senior volleyball player Jena Jobb is going into her third season on the Lady Leps varsity team and certainly knows how to keep the ball off the floor. The defensive specialist and libero was named the district defensive player of the year last year and her quality experience will play a key role in 2023.
“I’m looking for her to bring consistency,” said La Grange head volleyball coach Leslie Coltrain. “Already through the summer and early season, she’s been a leader. A very vocal leader. That’s one of the things I’m definitely looking for from her.”
Jobb’s early display of senior command has made her our choice for this editon’s Athlete of the Week.
Question: What was the most exciting thing you did this past summer?
Answer: “This past summer, one of the most exciting things I did was go to North Carolina with our church mission trip and just help people out. Do things up there.”
Question: What’s one thing you’re looking forward to this volleyball season?
Answer: “To really bond with the girls, considering there’s a lot of returners. I’m excited for the new girls to help the team out.”
Question: Who’s a teammate you talk on the phone with?
Answer: “Mostly Haylie (Cooper) and Mara (Colon). They’re like my best friends.”
Question: Where’s your favorite place to be on the volleyball court?
Answer: “I love being in left-back. It’s my favorite. I love it so much.”
Question: What’s your preferred meal they serve at school?
Answer: “I love their lasagna. It was my favorite when I ate here.”
Question: If you had to choose, would you rather go on the world’s craziest roller coaster or skydive?
Answer: “Skydive”
Question: Who’s a teammate you talk with the most on road trips?
Answer: “Probably Haylie.”
Question: What would you say is expected of you on this team now that you’re a senior?
Answer: “To be a leader because this will also be my third year on the team. To be a leader on the court, especially if I’m on there at all times. So I can help pick people up and just keep everyone going.”
Question: Which do you think you could accomplish faster, run five miles or solve a Rubik’s Cube?
Answer: “Run five miles.”
Question: What’s a special trait you’re always going to remember about La Grange High School?
Answer: “Just the way the coaches build bonds with the players. It’s not just ‘oh, you’re here to play on my team.’They actually build relationships.”
Jobb knows what it’s like to be a good teammate, which has translated to success on the volleyball court.
