Opening Results Mixed for County Volleyball Teams

The Schulenburg volleyball team opened its season with a pair of losses against two very good teams Tuesday. The Lady Horns lost to St. Michael’s 25-18, 25-21, 25-16 and fell to Goliad in five sets, losing that fifth set 15-6.

In the match against Goliad, Jessalyn Gipson led Schulenburg in kills with 16 and Emmrie Marx added 15. Kieryn Adams and Keaton Walker each had four aces. Meredith Magliolo had six blocks. Landry Zapalac had 32 assists and Adams had 27 digs. In the match against St. Michael’s, Marz led in kills with six. Walker had four aces, Adams had 12 digs and Zapalac had 15 assists.

• The La Grange volleyball team opened its season with a 25-14, 19-25, 25-21, 25-19 loss at Weimar Tuesday. The Lady Leps play at the Columbus Tournament this week.

• The Fayetteville volleyball team defeated Tidehaven in four sets and Hempstead in five sets in season-opening matches at home. Against Tidehaven the score was 20-25, 25-21, 25-15, 25-17. Against Hempstead the score was 2125, 25-19, 25-27, 25-11, 15-6.

• Flatonia began its volleyball season with a win, beating Rice 25-20, 25-22.

The Round Top-Carmine Cubettes beat Anderson-Shiro Tuesday 25-21, 22-25, 25-23, 25-21 in the season opener for both teams.
