Volleyball Season Heats Up With Tournaments Aplenty
La Grange
After starting the season with six consecutive losses, the La Grange volleyball team is suddenly on a three match win streak. The Lady Leps swept past Fort Bend Bush 25-10, 25-13 Friday before downing Iowa Colony 25-21, 25-16 and Edna 25-21, 25-16 Saturday to close out the Columbus Tournament. No individual stats were available at press time. The Lady Leps (36) return to action Tuesday at Bastrop before the Lady Leps play at the Bastrop Tourney this weekend.
Round Top-Carmine
The Round Top-Carmine varsity volleyball team competed at the Columbus Tournament and finished third in the Silver Bracket. Their overall record is now 5-4.
In pool play in Columbus the Cubettes beat Industrial, Cypress Christian and Devine and lost to Sealy, Schulenburg and Victoria West. In Saturday’s bracket play they lost to Sealy before downing Devine 25-13, 15-25, 25-22. Stat leaders in the Devine victory Saturday included: Mallory Krause 9 kills, 2 digs, 12 assists, 1 ace; Tess Eilers 8 kills, 10 digs, 2 assists; Kennedy Flinn 2 kills, 2 assist blocks, 1 solo block; 4. Kaysie Ward 7 kills, 2 assist blocks; 5. Jessica Rohde 2 kills, 1 assist block, 1 assist; Jill Eilers 5 kills, 1 assist block, 9 digs, 11 assists; Maggie Salinas 18 digs, 6 assists, 1 ace; Kim Rohde 1 kill, 6 digs, 1 ace.
Fayetteville
The Fayetteville volleyball team has started the season with a 5-4 record and is coming off a 3-4 finish at the Yorktown Tournament. The Lady Lions defeated Nixon-Smiley, Waelder and Louise, but lost to Weimar twice, Falls City, and Kenedy.
So far this season Kayme Schley leads the team in kills with 64, digs with 84 and aces with 16. Rylier Dyer leads in assists with 77. The Lady Lions host Calvert Tuesday.
Schulenburg
After the first week of the season, the Schulenburg volleyball team has a 5-5 record, and is coming off a 5-3 performance at the Columbus Tournament.
In pool play, the Lady Horns beat Fort Bend Austin, Iowa Colony, East Bernard, Round Top-Carmine and Devine and lost only to Victoria West. That vaulted them into the Gold Bracket Saturday, but they fell to Columbus and East Bernard. Meredith Magliolo was named to the All-Tournament team. In the tourney finale against East Bernard, Magliolo had 11 kills, Emmrie Marx had 12 and Brooke Redding had eight. Landry Zapalac had 34 assists and Kieryn Adams had 27 digs. Additionally, Schulenburg’s Adams and Magliolo have been named to the PrepVolleyball.com Class of 2024 High School Watch List.
Flatonia
The Flatonia volleyball team played at the Shiner Tournament over the weekend, going 2-3 overall. Friday they beat Industrial, but lost to Yoakum and Sacred Heart. Saturday they lost to Hallettsville but beat Industrial.In Saturday’s win over Industrial, stats leaders included: Top Assists: Summer Sodek with 7 and Katelin Sullivan with 7. Top Kills: Greenli VanZandt with 4, Katelin Sullivan with 3, Emma Kosler with 3 and Summer Sodek with 3. Top Aces: Summer Sodek with 4 and Sadie Noska with 2.
