Lions Eliminate Defending State Champ D’Hanis
Fayetteville left no doubt who the best baseball team in the region was.
After blasting D’Hanis 11-1 in the opening game of their region 4-1A finals Tuesday, the Lions slammed the door on the Cowboys’ hopes of repeating as state champs with a 12-4 win in the series finale Thursday at Texas State.
Fayetteville freshman Jack Schley pitched the first five innings before Travis Gully hurled two scoreless innings of relief.
Schley also led the way offensively for Fayetteville with four hits (including a double and triple) and three RBIs in Game 2. Easton Jaeger had three hits and drove in two. Lawson Fritsch had two hits and scored three times, and Reid Gross had two hits and scored two runs.
