LHS Cross Country Competes at Westlake Chaparral Invitational
OnAug. 28, the La Grange Leopards cross country program traveled to SE Metro Park in Del Valle for the Westlake Chaparral Invitational, with the girls varsity team stepping up to the 5K distance for the first time this season and both JV squads competing on a two-mile course.
Girls Varsity (5K)
The La Grange varsity girls ran their first 5k of the season, led by junior Lilian Carey, who finished with a time of 21:21. Freshman Anabelle Zoch was next across the line for the Lady Leps, continuing her strong showing through the early part of the season.
Girls JV (2-Mile)
The JV girls competed over a 2-mile course, paced by senior Lacee Surman and junior Mattie Muzny.
Boys Varsity (5K)
The varsity boys also ran at the 5K distance, led by senior Dilan Barron, who crossed the line in 18:45. Junior Jacob Estrada was the 2nd runner to finish for the Leopards.
Boys JV (2-Mile)
Freshman Rudy Lopez led the JV boys, continuing his solid early-season form for the Leopards.
Girls head coach Barry Donovan and boys head coach Aaron Rowlett commented: “We are still building fitness every week, and races like this show us exactly where we stand. We are proud of how everybody competed today against strong competition and look forward to build on the performance.”
The La Grange cross country teams compete again this Friday, September 4, 2026, at the Bastrop High School Invitational at Cedar Creek Park (5540 FM 535), where varsity girls, varsity boys and JV boys will run a 5K course and the JV girls will run a 2-mile course. (Note the relocation to Cedar Creek Park.)
