Lady Leps Rally to Beat Brazos in 5-Set Thriller
The La Grange volleyball team rallied from behind to beat Brazos in five sets Tuesday 25-20, 23-25, 23-25, 2725, 15-13.
At times La Grange’s Brion Williams took over in the fourth set and Avery Griffin led the offensive charge for the Leps in the 5th set to fuel the comeback.
“I told the girls in the locker room, ‘Y’all love to give me a little bit of a heart attack every single time,’” said La Grange head coach Cierra McCain. “Those girls work hard and during crunch time they are ready to go.”
The victory was particularly special for McCain, the first-year LHS coach, who is a graduate of Brazos.
“I snuck over there after the game and I was mingling with them.” McCain said of the visiting team. “I know a ton of them. My old coach was here also. It was like a full circle moment. I used to wear that jersey and now I’m See coaching against those jerseys. It was an awesome moment tonight for sure.”
The victory improves the Lady Leps overall record to 12-9. They play Friday at Lexington and then begin district play at Giddings Tuesday.
“Coming into district I think we will be pretty solid,” McCain said. “We have a few things to tweak up. I changed the rotation up a bit on them. They had to come out tonight and execute something brand new. They are always willing to do their best and put their best foot forward. I think our biggest competition (in district) is going to be Bellville and Sealy.”
The Round Top-Carmine volleyball team defeated Schulenburg Tuesday in four sets to improve to 13-6 this season. RTC won 21-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-18. Schulenburg’s record dropped to 1514 overall with the loss.
Flatonia
The Flatonia volleyball team lost to Hallettsville Tuesday 21-25, 8-25, 17-25. Fayetteville
The Fayetteville volleyball team defeated Manor New Tech Tuesday 25-20, 25-13, 25-15. Lainey Gromaski had 13 kills, Lilly Aldape had nine, and Maycee Miller had six. Scotti Beseda and Aldape each had three aces. Cambree Denham, Aldape, Gromaski and Aubree Graeter all had three blocks. Emily Keilers had 13 digs and Beseda had 26 assists.
The Lady Lions are 14-7.
