Johnson & Michalka Explosive Weapons for Leps

The La Grange football team is going to score points.

With nine returning offensive starters back from a team that averaged 31.5 points per game last year there was little doubt about the Leps’ offensive potential coming into this season. Last Thursday’s performance in the scrimmage against state-ranked Franklin only solidified that offensive confidence as La Grange scored 42 total points that night. Maybe the two biggest offensive stars of that scrimmage were seniors Dillan Johnson and Klayton Michalka.

Johnson ran for a touchdown and caught a touchdown pass, and Michalka turned a short pass into a 70-yard scrimmage-winning touchdown. We’re proud to honor both of these seniors as this week’s Fayette County Athletes of the Week as they get ready for Friday’s season opener against Navasota. We caught up with both guys after Thursday’s scrimmage.

“I expect a good season,” Johnson said. “I see a lot of growth this season, a lot of players have matured. We have a lot of experience, we’re ready.”

Both are part of a massive class of seniors on this year’s team – 21 strong.

“We’re player-centered this year,” said Michalka, who is making the switch from running back to receiver this season. “Last year the coaches had to get us motived and make us do what needed to be done. But this year we realize what we need to do. We are very senior-led.”
