Volleyball Roundup: Flatonia Grabs 2nd and Lady Horns 3rd at Schulenburg Tournament

La Grange

The La Grange girls volleyball team went to the Bastrop Tournament last week and beat Boswell and Elgin but lost to Industrial, Fort Bend Austin, Taft and Hays.

The Lady Leps are now 9-7 overall and play at East Bernard Tuesday.

Flatonia

The Flatonia volleyball team went 5-3 last week at the Schulenburg Tournament and won second place in the Gold Bracket.

Thursday the Flatonia girls lost to Columbus but beat Marion and Sacred Heart.

Friday the Lady Bulldogs lost to East Bernard but beat Schulenburg and Yoakum.

In Saturday’s Gold Bracket play Flatonia beat Edna 2518, 15-25, 25-23 but then lost to Columbus in the title match 24-26, 18-25.

Stat leaders for Flatonia in that title match included: Aces: Presley Cliffe - 1; Digs: Harper Morrill 8, Kat Sullivan 7, Presley Cliffe & Brynlee Zimmerman 5; Assists: Harper Morrill- 20; Kills: Kat Sullivan 9, Abbie Uzzell 8, Emma Kosler & Quinn Arnett 3.

Schulenburg

The Schulenburg volleyball team went 5-3 at their home tournament last week and grabbed third place out of the 14 teams there. Haylee Vacek was named to the alltournament team.

The Lady Horns beat Fayetteville, St. Paul, Edna and Yoakum in pool play and lost to Flatonia and East Bernard in Friday pool play.

In action in the Gold Bracket Saturday, the Lady Horns lost to Columbus in the semifinals but then bounced back to beat Edna in the third place match 25-14, 25-22.

In that match Vacek had 12 kills, Greenli Van Zandt had seven, Kimber Bartosch had six and Aubryn Janda had five.

Jenna Guentert had 26 assists and 11 digs and Miranda Bonner had 10 digs.

The Lady Horns are now 9-9 overall.

RTC

The Round Top-Carmine volleyball team went 5-2 at the Franklin Tournament last week to win second place. The Cubettes beat Anderson-Shiro, Hamshire-Fannett, Little River Academy, Bremond and Buffalo and lost twice to Iola, including in the title match. The Cubettes are now 10-6 overall.

Fayetteville

The Fayetteville volleyball team competed at the Schulenburg Tournament last week and went 5-3. The Lady Lions beat Edna, Sacred Heart, Nixon-Smiley, Marion and Snook but lost to Schulenburg and St. Paul twice. The Lady Lions are now 7-4 overall. In Friday’s victory over Marion Lainey Gromaski had 18 kills, Lilly Aldape had nine and Aubree Graeter had six. Scotti Beseda and Emily Keilers each had four aces. Keilers had 22 digs, Aldape had 13 and Gromaski had 10. Beseda had 31 assists.
