On May 6, 2026, Austin Michael McBroom graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health from Texas A&M. Austin is the son of Kevin and Melissa McBroom, the grandson of Mike and Linda McBroom of Warda, and Laura Ciaccio of Fort Worth.

Flatonia Chief of Police Lee Dick announced that the Flatonia Police Department received a grant from the NRA Foundation and Friends of NRA in the amount of $2,758. The grant will be used to purchase two patrol rifles, each equipped with AimPoint red dot optics. These rifles will enhance the Flatonia Police Department’s existing Patrol Rifle Program and will better equip officers to protect the community. The Stanzel Family Foundation is excited to announce the recipients of their annual Teacher-Generated Instructional Grants. Since 2013 the Foundation has offered these awards to support instructional learning experiences in the area schools. Grant requests come directly from and directly support teachers in four schools: Weimar ISD, Schulenburg ISD, St. Michael Catholic School and St. Rose of Lima Catholic School. This year’s awards supported technology, curriculum and supplies in the areas of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), Instructional Materials, Novels and books, Agriculture Mechanics Tools and Shop Equipment, and social-emotional learning curriculum.

Robert Bundick, of La Grange, is among the more than 3,800 students who earned their degrees from the University of Mississippi in May 2026. Bundick, who majored in Integrated Marketing Communications, received a Bachelor of Science from the School of Journalism and New Media.

The Colorado Valley Chamber Players 2nd Concert is July 25 Once upon a time, there was a famous dinner in Leipzig. The guest list included none other than three of the greatest composers of the Romantic era: Russia’s Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Norway’s Edvard Grieg, and Germany’s own Johannes Brahms.

Studio Texas will host a dinner and a public lecture July 23 on historical forensic sculpture as part of its first Annual Art Escape, a threeday event celebrating art, history, and community. The event begins with a Member’s Art Show on the porch of The Hall at the Farmstead from 1–4 p.m. July 23, followed by the featured presentation “Love is the Difference” at 4 p.m.

College students prepare tirelessly this summer to put on three full-length Shakespearean plays, adding to the long legacy of performers who have participated in Shakespeare at Winedale since 1970. Over the course of nine weeks, the ensemble of performers practice their lines, learn fight sequences, and build props for their productions, preparing for their fiveshow weekends they perform the last four weeks of the program.
