Wendish Heritage Society Annual Fish Fry Sunday

The Texas Wendish Heritage Society will have their Annual Fish Fry Fundraiser on Sunday, March 17. Plates include fried fish, homemade potato salad, pinto beans, coleslaw and hush puppies. Presale tickets are available at the Wendish Museum and First National Bank of Giddings for $15. This will be a drive-thru pick up only from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Serbin Picnic Grounds. There will also be a Country Store available to purchase desserts, dry Wendish noodles and more.

Shelter Caring For 100 Animals

As of March 8, total intake for the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter is 247: 154 dogs and 93 cats in need. As of March 1, the shelter has 100 animals in our care: 74 dogs/26 cats. This number includes animals in the facility, in foster care for medical, waiting on available space, or awaiting transport to rescue partner.

Italian Treat in Schulenburg

St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Schulenburg held a spaghetti dinner following mass on Sunday, March 10, with the meal prepared by Fr. Jasper Liggio, pastor at St. Rose, and his brother Vincent, along with many volunteers from the Church and Schulenburg Knights of Columbus. The Liggio brothers prepared the spaghetti with meat sauce according to their family’s authentic Italian recipe. The church served approximately 1,100 plates.

La Grange Church Celebrates Girl Scouts

Civic Association Accepting Scholarship Applications

The Winchester Area Civic Association (WACA) will be offering a $1,000 scholarship to a person(s) enrolled or enrolling in an institute of higher learning for careers in the professions helping in the community such as nursing, teaching, criminology/peace officer, fire sciences, dental, radiology/imaging, or EMT certification/paramedic. The Association feels careers in these areas serve our community and this is a way to show appreciation to people entering these fields.

Bridge Work Continues in Muldoon

The bridges on county roads in the Muldoon area are being replaced and have been causing some travel issues for the locals. While the bridges on Buzby Creek on Boehnke Road and the bridge on Parkerville Road are now open, the bridge on Wallace Road still remains closed while they finish up the railings.
