County Extension Agents Attend Early Childhood Conference in Cuero

On April 29, County Extension Agents-Family & Community Health from De-Witt, Fayette, Gonzales, and Lavaca Counties co-hosted a Multi-County/District Early Childhood Conference. The event was held at the Anne Friar Thomas Homemaking Building in Cuero, and a total of 60 area childcare providers registered for the all-day event.

Guest speakers were Amanda Luddeke with Building Kids Steps; Casie Ehrig with Gonzales ISD Art Therapy; Marshall Mohr, Texas A&M Disaster Assessment & Recovery Agent; David Leal, Healthy Texas Specialist Texas A&M AgriLife; and Lisa Whittlsey, JMG Coordinator/ Horticultural Specialist at Texas A&M AgriLife. Topics covered in the sessions included planning for emergency situations, health and nutrition, behavior modification, curriculum planning and recognizing abuse through children’s art. An activity called “Museum Walk” allowed providers an opportunity to network and share their favorite ideas/ activities. Child Care Providers were awarded certificates for a total of 6 workshop and/ or Continuing Professional Education hours.
