New Pavilion Honors Pin Oak Cemetery Volunteer

It was beautiful cool weather and there was a good turn out on Saturday for Pin Oak Cemetery cleaning/meeting. Ten people came to work at cleaning and beautifying of the cemetery. A beautiful new pavilion was generously donated by the Cherry family in honor of Chester Cherry a longtime volunteer at Pin Oak Cemetery. John and Susan Coppedge oversaw the pavilion project as well as donating a new front fence and folding chairs for the cemetery. The cemetery association is now in the process of researching the older section of the cemetery to find out more about those buried in this very historic cemetery.

Out and About

Lillah, Charlie and Juliet Hill were very happy to have their grandfather, Mike Hill come out from Austin to watch Charlie’s soccer game. He then took them out to lunch and came home with them to spend a little time with them, watch them ride their bikes and even hit a few golf balls. They all had such a great time with the perfect weather for outdoor activities.

James and I enjoyed a visit from my cousins, Patty and John Keaton of Brawley, California. John is shooting at the Shooting Clay Nationals in San Antonio and came out a day early to be able to drive on out and visit. Then we took off for San Antonio one day to spend watching John shoot, and Patty and I got a chance to visit a few quilt shops too. It was a fun day that went by way too fast.

Disney Trip

Crazy weather across the country nixed most travel for Ron and Pam Knotts this year, but a few weeks ago they flew to Orlando to meet Micky. This was the first visit ever to the Magic Kingdom.

The first day they started at Epcot and jumped right on to one of the most popular rides, the Guardian of the Universe. Not a big fan of rides Pam managed to handle it. The rest of the day they checked out other shows and rides and stayed for the fireworks.

The second day they headed for Animal Kingdom, a calmer, slower park highlighting animal interactions. Another full day with many more miles of walking and dodging strollers and older folks on scooters. So much to see and do. Just outside the exit gate they discovered a Rainforest Cafe and opted to finish the day in the jungle.

By day three it was time to see the big blue castle at the Magic Kingdom. Arriving at the park they opted to ride the river boat across the pond to the entrance and check out Main Street. Next stop was the Hall of Presidents. Many years ago Ron and Pam had seen a similar exhibit at Disneyland in California and they were curious to see if the animatronics had changed. More presidents obviously but still amazing. This park had lots more accessible rides, many telling stories with elaborate sets and animatronic characters. At the end of the day Ron managed to get on the very popular Tron ride. Visitors ride astride futuristic motorcycles around a looping roller coaster track.

On the fourth day Ron and Pam needed a break so they drove out to Cocoa Beach to check out the Atlantic Ocean, walk on the beach and collect shells. It’s a typical beach town full of surf shops and souvenirs. The final day they decided to check out Universal Studios. Geared more to popular movies, they again rode creative rides featuring The Mummy, The Minions and The Transformers. All week long they met lots of interesting folks from across the country and beyond. It was an amazing action-packed holiday.

Cowboy Church News

Neighborhood Watch

Take time to check up on your neighbors. The holidays are not far away and we all need to help each other by watching out for each other. If you see something odd or out of place at your neighbors’ place, give them a call. There are lots of strangers traveling the area and just a little friendly call can prevent a lot of bad things happening.

Road Hazards

As the days are getting shorter the wildlife is getting more active at dusk and dawn. Hogs are very active and the deer are in full rut with them crossing the roadways at all times of the day. Be aware and watch out.
