Gilbert Bohuslav, age 92, passed away on May 17, 2025. He was born to Willie Sr. and Agnes Parma Bohuslav, in Ammannsville. The youngest of three children, he graduated from Schulenburg High School in 1951. He received a baseball scholarship and played ball at Blinn College in Brenham. He enlisted in the Army in November 1952, and when he returned home, he graduated with his bachelor’s degree from Texas State University in San Marcos. He later earned his master’s degree from Texas State University as well, in 1963.

Funeral services for Monroe Miertschin, 87 of Winchester, were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Winchester with Rev. Nate Hill officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Giddings American Legion York Post 276, followed in the church cemetery.

Regina Rosie (Malota) Gerik, 88, of Fayetteville, Texas, passed away, May 18, 2025 at TruCare Living Centers in Columbus. Regina was born in Fayetteville on March 13, 1937, the daughter of Frank and Albina (Sury) Malota.

Lorine Clara (Chovanec) Michalsky, age 92, born Aug. 17, 1932 in Ellinger to Frank Chovanec and Clara Urban Chovanec, died at her home with her family around her after a gallant battle with a lengthy illness on Thursday, May 15, 2025 in Houston.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Miguel Vega Alvarez was held Sunday, May 18, 2025 at 3 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Grange with a Rosary led at 2:30 p.m. A visitation was scheduled for Friday, May 16, 2025 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Fayette Memorial Funeral Home in La Grange.

Marilyn Agnes (Kainer) Adamcik, 90, of Ammannsville, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2025. She was born on June 2, 1934, in Middle Creek near High Hill, to the late Hulda (Heinrich) and Alfred Kainer.

Joe Hanzelka, age 90 of Weimar, passed into eternal rest on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, on the same family land that he was born on 90 years ago. The baby of the family, Joe was born on July 2, 1934 to Ed, Sr.
