Zwernemann

Ronald “Ronnie” Edward Zwernemann, 79, peacefully passed away in Houston, Texas on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. Ronnie was born in Lee County, Texas on September 25, 1945 to Betty Bernice (Leitko) Zwernemann and Arno Edward Zwernemann. Ronnie grew up in Dime Box, Texas, attended and graduated from Dime Box High School in 1964. It was during his high school years he met the love of his life, Shirley Ann (Wagner) Zwernemann. Ronnie and Shirley were united in marriage at Trinity Lutheran Church in Old Dime Box, Texas on Nov. 7, 1964. They welcomed their first son, Troy Lynn Zwernemann on March 11, 1966 in Bryan, Texas. After moving to Houston, Texas they welcomed their second son, Shannon Boyd Zwernemann on Feb. 2, 1968. It was in Houston Ronnie started his 33-year career with General Electric Corp. starting in the factory with assembly and moving up to production control. He retired in 2001 from GE, but continued to run his small private sheetrock business for many years serving many area residents in his community.

A graveside service to honor Ronnie’s life was held on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Richters Cemetery, Round Top, Texas.

Matula A Memorial Service for Kelly Anne Matula will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 11, 2025 at Fayette Memorial Funeral Home (967 E. Colorado St., La Grange, Texas). The family will be receiving guests beginning at 12 p.m. prior to the service. A reception will follow at Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club in the Valley View room.

Kelly Matula, 26, of La Grange, passed away on July 5, 2025. She was born on October 14, 1998 in Richardson, Texas to Lori (Lewis) Steffek and Rodney Samuel Hefner. Kelly attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and La Grange High School. She married the love of her life David Matula on June 1, 2023 in Hallettsville.

Kelly enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

She also enjoyed traveling, and was always willing to take a long road trip, usually with the windows down and good music playing. She loved the beach, puffins, and her Border Collie, Beau. Kelly will be dearly missed by her family and friends, and her memory forever cherished.

Kelly is survived by her husband, David; parents, Lori and Alvin Steffek of Hallettsville and Rodney and Beth Hefner; one sister, Ashley and Robert Eyler of Rockville, Maryland; one brother, Aiden Steffek; sisters-in-law Mary Matula (best friend) and Julie Matula, and Mary’s daughter Bella; mother-in-law, Debbie Matula and father-in-law, David Sr. and Megan Matula; step-sisters, Beth and Steven Hull, Kaylie and Edgar Ochoa, Teagan Steffek and fiancé Jaxon Reeves; stepbrother, Charles and Chelsea Steffek, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Marion Lewis, and Jesse and Barbara Hefner.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to Gardenia Janssen Animal Shelter in La Grange or to a charity of one’s choice.
