This Saturday marks four years since the Colorado River crested at more than 54 feet in La Grange. Floodwaters began inundating the town the day before. The disaster caused millions of dollars in damages and left hundreds homeless locally.

The third quarterly meeting of Society No. 31 of La Grange, St. Frances of Rome, KJZT Family Life was held at 4:00 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Church narthex meeting room on Monday, Aug. 16. President Elizabeth Kallus called the meeting to order and led opening prayers and the pledges to the U.S. and Texas flags.

Texas A&M University-Kingsville students walked the stage Friday, Aug. 6, during the summer commencement.

Fourteen members of the Round Top-Carmine ISD High School Class of 1961, three former classmates, and seven spouses met at Murphy’s Steakhouse of Winchester on Saturday, Aug. 7 to celebrate 60 years since their graduation from the Round Top – Carmine ISD High School. Class members attending came from the following Texas places: Austin, Brenham, Carmine, Cedar Creek, Columbus, Cuero, Flatonia, Houston, La Grange, Pearland, Rockwall, Round Top, and Tomball. Reunion Committee Chair Jim Zwernemann presided over a brief Class meeting. A moment of silence was held in the memory of the 11 RT-C Graduates and 16 former classmates who have passed away in the past 60 years. It was decided that the RT-C Class of 1961 will celebrate 61 years since their graduation with a 2022 RT-C Class of 1961 Reunion if conditions permit.

The Muldoon Museum will be open the first Saturday in September from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. There is no admission charge to the museum which holds lots of Muldoon area history. Everything from railroad memorabilia to home items to war memorabilia, each a reflection of life in years past. The war memorabilia exhibit is being expanded with more unique items being added. The museum is open and run by volunteers and there is no charge for admission, but free will donations are welcomed to help preserve the past.

At a meeting Aug. 12, Fayette County Commissioners took no action on a proclamation that would urge regional water planners to conserve groundwater resources in a pending update to their long term management plan.
