Shred Day Held For National Co-op Month

Did you know that Fayette Electric Cooperative and Colorado Valley Communications both share something in common? That’s right, they’re both cooperatives. They may be in different industries, but they both share a passion for serving members and helping our communities to thrive. In fact, all cooperatives adhere to the same set of seven principles that reflect our core values of honesty, transparency, equity, inclusiveness and service to the greater community good.
CVTC’s Sales and Marketing Coordinator Kenn Kasparek and General Manager Kelly Allison greet ProShred representative Terry McCoy as members begin to line up to shred their documents at Colorado Valley Telephone headquarters.

St. Rose Blessing of the Animals ...

On Monday afternoon, October 4, (pictured left and right) St. Rose of Lima Catholic School in Schulenburg celebrated the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi. St. Francis is honored in many Christian traditions as the patron saint of animals and the environment. Students and their families brought all sorts of animals to the school grounds that day, where Rev. Isaac Maunger gave all a special blessing.

Then on Tuesday, (below) the Schulenburg Volunteer Fire Department came to St. Rose for Fire Prevention Day. Firefighters taught students about fire safety. The students also got to climb on the fire trucks and even operate a fire hose.

What’s Happening at the La Grange Railroad Depot?

The past year has been hard for a lot of us. Most of us have been primarily concerned with keeping our lives moderately in order under the strain of the pandemic and the challenges it has presented to us. Fayette County communities are mostly small, so that practicing social distancing, wearing masks and avoiding large crowds has not been particularly difficult. During the past summer we were all hoping for a significant permanent decrease in the incidence of COVID. In recent weeks that hope has been fading, but because so many of us have been vaccinated and are continuing to live carefully, the risks are being pretty well managed. After a very tiresome period of limited social interaction we are thankfully beginning to go on with our new normal lives.
